You can spend a lot of time trying to craft the perfect e-mail but if you can’t get the recipient to open it, then it doesn’t matter what you are trying to convey. Crafting the perfect subject lines for your e-mails in 2015 is going to require some thought. The people you are trying to send your message to are very busy and unless you can “hook” them in some way, your message may be overlooked.
Tips for Crafting the Perfect E-mail Subject Line
- Keep it short and to the point.
If you make your subject line too long, you run the risk of losing your reader. Keep it brief, but make sure that you include enough information so that the recipient knows what the e-mail is about. Try to keep the subject line to no more than three words, if possible.
- Forget jargon, acronyms, and “special offers”.
These kinds of words in a subject line are not going to impress your recipient. They will just make him or her pass on what you are trying to say. The same rule applies to rhetorical questions. Keep it simple and you have a much better chance of getting your e-mail read.
- Think mobile.
Your recipient may well be opening your message on a mobile device. Longer subject lines (more than four words) may be cut off. If you must use a longer subject line, keep the important words at the beginning.
